My Music Renaissance
So, I once was a musician. I lived and breathed music. I spent the best part of thirty years dreaming, listening, playing, learning, teaching, feeling and watching music. I have had some amazing experiences....playing Glastonbury (John Peel stage), Hyde Park Wireless, Radio One Weekend, Radio 1 Jo Whiley and many more but grew out of love with the business and no longer felt the burning passion I once did for music as an art.
Recently, I have had a few little reminders of the power and good that music can bring. I've been to a few gigs and filmed a Musical Mystery Tour for the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. Very different but all amazing in different ways.
Musical Mystery Tour 23rd September 2017
This was a celebration of some of the artists who are currently studying or associated with the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. It was a promenade piece, stopping off at some of Birmingham's best assets, sampling a different genre of music at each.
The Hot 8 Brass Band 15th October 2017
These guys have proper lived through tragedy but certainly 'know how to party'. Original tunes played next to old classics in a modern new orleans trad jazz style. It was a great night, even if it was a Sunday!
James Blunt 21st November 2017
Wouldn't normally go for this kind of music but two of my old band mates (the 2 in the middle) have sessioned for him for ages and it's always great to see them and catch up.
The audience loved the show, it was great to see so many engaged and loving it!
and then for something completely different.......
The Hang Massive 30th November 2017
It was a freezing November evening that was soon warmed by the beautiful sounds these guys produce. Mellow and enchanting. I am seriously considering buying one of these crazy instruments.
As Plato once said.....
'Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.'
As I once said.....
'that tune's wicked!'
see you next time
